SWEET & LOVELY
Raiatea Helm
Winner of 4 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards
including Favorite Entertainer and Female Vocalist
Raiatea Helm burst onto the Hawaiian music scene in 2000. It was hard to believe that the music on "Far Away Heaven" was the work of a 18 year old, much less someone's first recording. The depth of vocal talent she demonstrated in her first recording and subsequent live performances was stunning. Many aficionado's of the Hawaiian falsetto were dumbfounded that this young woman, so small in stature, was opening her mouth and these beautiful renditions of Hawaiian songs were released like a storm from heaven. Her incredible talent just rains down and nourishes Hawaiian music lovers.
With "Sweet & Lovely" she confirms the promise of her 1st album and stakes her claim to the status of Hawaiian music's new "it" girl. Between "Far Away Heaven" and "Sweet & Lovely", Raiatea has been on a journey of hard work, musical and personal growth. This new CD represents Raiatea's expansion over the last three years: growth as a musician and most certainly her developing as a world class performer.
Producer, Dave Tucciarone, who's huge hits include Hawaiian Style Band, Sista Robi and Maunalua, produces yet another album in which the artist is features in the best light and highlights her talents without dissipating her seemingly effortless bell-like falsetto. It appears that Dave Tucciarone will again shape the style of music the public gravitates to for the next year with this brilliant Hawaiian album. Guest artists include Keali'i Reichel, Aunty Genoa Keawe, John Ka'imikaua and Zach Helm on a selection of Hawaiian classic songs.
When she first came to the attention of thousands, Raiatea was a self-described tomboy and Moloka'i girl. The bud of a beautiful flower to be. Since then she has performed to thousands of awe struck Hawaiian music fans in Hawai'i as well as throughout the mainland and Japan. Touring extensively with the Makaha Sons and Ho'okena, Raiatea has had the opportunity to perform with seasoned Hawaiian musicians as well as perform for their loyal following who have embraced her musical style.
At the same time she was promoting her first album, she finished high school and started her college education. In the midst of her busy life and career, she won two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards and a Hawai'i Music Award. "Sweet & Lovely" is a reflection of her electrifying youth and developing musical mystic. It's a prophetic kuleana (responsibility) to perpetuate her Hawaiian heritage; makana (gift) to her kupuna (elders) and her endearing love for her generation and the generations to come.
